Our Four C's of Learning
In the Competency phase, we emphasis learning. Often, the player does not realize they are deficient in the area we are going to address. For this reason, we lead with 'away from the ball' education to ensure full understanding of the desired new motion.
In the Control phase, we look to maximize the amount of quality reps that relate to the desired new motion. While Competency is related to understanding, think of Control as physical literacy. Just like learning a new language, we will break new motion into chunks and slowly repeat each one until Consistency begins to form.
In the Consistency phase, we'll look to change the environment and add pressure in order to ensure that the desired new motion is as stable as it needs to be to reach our goals. This phase prepares us for competition.
If the first three phases are completed properly, Confidence is the natural outcome. However, that is not always the case. In this situation, the remedy depends on the player. Some may need more time to cycle through the first three phases. Others may want more time in the Consistency phase to prove to themselves that they are capable.
To achieve mastery, the player will have to achieve high markings in each of our teaching categories below. The skills listed begin at a base level and work up to the more complex aspects of the sport.
Can the player coordinate a motion that delivers the club to the ball with an appropriate attack angle and in the middle of the face?
Can the player orient and move their body in a way that supports their Arc skill? This includes grip, posture, alignment, flexibility, mobility, and coordination.
Once the arc skill and body movement are functional, can the player demonstrate a club plane, path, and face that are within acceptable ranges?
Can the player produce average to above average speeds while maintaining their Arc, Body, and Club control? If so, their Distance and Dispersion with all clubs will support quality golf within their category.
Can the player perform up to their best ability by controlling their emotions under pressure or during competition?
Does the player know how to focus and what to focus on in order achieve high levels of performance?
